Yes, it’s official. Ford has officially entered into a joint venture (JV) with Mahindra, under which the two will jointly develop, market and sell Ford cars in India. Along with the annoucement of the new partnership, both manufacturers have revealed an exciting product lineup that will consist of seven all-new models.
The upper-end of the mid-size SUV segment is booming in India and this has been proved by the success of the MG Hector. Ford might soon tap into this hotly contested segment with a tried-and-tested Mahindra, the XUV500. Yes, the Ford badge is expected to make its way onto the nose of the next-gen XUV500.

But if you want a mid-size SUV that isn’t as large as the Hector, the Mahindra S204 based on the SsangYong Tivoli Air is also expected to be rebadged as a Ford. The S204 will be built to take on the Creta and Seltos, two SUVs which have enjoyed immense success in India. The Tivoli Air is a tad longer than the standard Tivoli and the S204 is expected to come in a 7-seater form as well. This could prove as an added advantage for Ford and Mahindra as both its Korean rivals are five-seater SUVs.

Another model that could bear the Ford badge is the Mahindra Marazzo. A long time ago, Ford had plans of introducing an MPV in India. To finally see that happen, the Marazzo could be the perfect fit. The Marazzo sits bang in between the Ertiga and Innova Crysta. With no one else tapping into this segment, the presence of a Ford-badged Marazzo means more choices for the customer.

Back in 2017, Ford and Mahindra had joined hands for developing EVs for India. And the first car to possibly come out of this partnership could be a Mahindra-badged Aspire EV. Yes, that’s right. Ford is expected to provide Mahindra with the Aspire EV, which will join the Verito EV and the upcoming XUV300 EV in the Indian carmaker’s portfolio. All in all, expect seven new models from the Ford-Mahindra JV.
While the bases remain the same, all models mentioned here will have different identities. They will have different styling rather than badge-engineered cars like the Glanza. Topping things off is that both models will be sold separately at their respective dealerships.
