Ford India has recalled a total of 1,66,021 units of the Figo and the Fiesta Classic to check a potential issue with the rear suspension and the power assisting steering hose. However, the company maintained that no running problem related to the specific issues had been reported till now. This is the third major recall by the American manufacturer in less than a year. Previously, it had recalled the diesel variants of the EcoSport for an issue with the Glow Plug control module.
Out of the total number of the vehicles recalled, 1,09,469 units of the Ford Figo and 22,453 Fiesta Classic will be checked for the rear twist beam. A faulty rear suspension may result in an unstable ride, handling and braking. Also, 30,681 units of the Ford Figo and 3,418 units of the Fiesta Classic will have their power steering hose replaced. This recall will only be for vehicles manufactured between January 2010 and June 2012.
"Ford India is extending its existing voluntary field service action (FSA) and will recall the remaining batches of Ford Figo and Ford Classic models to inspect them for potential issues related to the rear twist beam (RTB) and the power assisted steering (PAS) hose. The recall is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers by inspecting and replacing any potentially affected parts as required. Ford India will continue to drive this service initiative through its authorised dealers." said Ford India said in an official statement.
Ford is contacting Figo and Fiesta Classic owners via customer letters. To find out if your car is part of the recall, visit Ford’s India website and enter your car’s VIN number.
