With the introduction of the EcoSport, Ford addressed just what the consumers in the Indian market needed – a compact offering that flaunted SUV styling. And with the kind of SUV-fascination of Indian buyers, it did pretty well on the sales charts too. Now, Ford India plans to export its well-liked SUV to US. In fact, with a quotation of 90,000 units annually already made, its exports are expected to be a lot higher than its local sales.
Although there is no official confirmation from Ford as yet, if the deal goes through, it will be the first time in history that cars are exported from another country for a local car maker. That said, India-made car is being exported isn’t quite a new thing, especially with manufacturers like Nissan, Honda and Mahindra already sending some of their offerings.
Exports aside, the Ford EcoSport that will be send the refreshed model similar to the one showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The biggest change on the new Ford EcoSport is refreshed tail gate that no longer holds the spare wheel. However, instead of the spare wheel, Ford will provide a tyre mobility kit that contains a tyre sealant. Ford claims that the ride and handling dynamics have also been altered. The ground clearance has now been increased to 210mm from the earlier 200mm. In terms of looks, the Ford EcoSport now also gets scuff plates at the front as well as at the back.
