The fourth-gen sedan will go on sale by April-end
  • The fourth-gen Octavia is likely to be priced from Rs 20 lakh.

  • The mid-size sedan will be powered by a 190PS 2.0-litre TSI engine, paired with a 7-speed DSG.

  • It will resume its rivalry with the Hyundai Elantra.

Skoda India has commenced production of the new Octavia in its top-spec Laurin & Klement avatar. The fourth-gen mid-size sedan will go on sale later this month. The first production model was rolled out of the facility in Aurangabad.

In terms of design, the new Octavia gets quite a few nips and tucks. It sports Skoda’s traditional butterfly grille which is flanked by single-piece LED headlamps. We also get a glimpse of those sweet alloy wheels! At the rear, the sedan gets bold ‘SKODA’ lettering and split LED tail lamps.

Inside, the new Octavia gets a much cleaner layout with minimalistic controls and knobs. A large touchscreen infotainment system highlights the additions to the new sedan, followed by a digital driver’s display. Expect the sedan to also get feature additions such as connected car tech and a wireless phone charger. On the safety front, it could get up to eight airbags as well.

This time around, Skoda has done away with the diesel engine for the fourth-gen Octavia. It will be offered with a sole 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 190PS and 320Nm. Transmission duties will be handled by a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. A more affordable 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine could also be offered later.
