Millions love her music and it appears as if she takes it quite seriously too, but one thing Lady Gaga does not know is how to reign in her cover designers. The cover of her latest album, Born This Way, which released a few days back to massive commercial and critical success, features a custom motorcycle – or what used to be of it.
The bike had been borrowed from British custom bike maker Nick Gale for use as artwork on the album cover, but he had no clue it would be “Captain America-ised” in such a massive way. And it is not Gaga’s face in place of the headlamps that has miffed the bike maker off.
In an interview to a famous British bike magazine, Gale said that he was “horrified” with the way his bike was modified – the album art being labeled a “cheap Photoshop job” by British newspaper The Guardian. The bike in question - the Predator - is the runner-up of the 2009 Biker Build-Off, which was built from the ground up in just 9 hours 40 minutes.
The artwork team decided to use software to convert Gale’s gorgeous low-slung custom cruiser into a cheap version of Captain America’s bike from the 1969 Dennis Hopper cult classic, Easy Rider. A complete change of stance from cruiser to chopped-up hotrod, sissy bar and upswept twin exhausts have ensured that this beautiful motorcycle has been reduced to pop-corn.
The music may be good, but we wish they had just left the bike the Way it was Born.
