The philosophy of the Chinese auto industry is simple; repeat what the west is doing, do not over engineer and keep the price affordable for just about anybody. A prime example of this is the Geely GE - a car that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike a Rolls Royce Phantom. This faux Roller, at least on the outside, looks strikingly similar to its expensive muse, and an untrained eye could easily pass it off as the real deal. The Geely's massive 17.5 foot long body has pretty much the same shape as the Phantom and many other similar design elements, such as the large chrome grille in the front, slender tail lamps and even has a statuette of a winged creature on its nose that resembles The Spirit of Ecstasy.
But once you open the doors, the innards can be best described as a bit eccentric, or at least different. Unlike the Rolls Royce, which has really luxurious seating for the driver as well, the front of the GE's cabin looks like it was designed for chauffeurs only. And in the back, which by the way is completely isolated from the front by a glass partition, things get even more radical. An uber-luxurious single seat that is tucked in between a contoured bulkhead is nothing short of a throne and is bathed by light from an artificial starlit roof, just like the Rolls. While the back seat (again, singular) might really make you feel like a king, it will prove completely useless if you decide to take someone along for the ride, unless of course you're okay with them kneeling down at your feet - something a real king would be accustomed to.
There are artists - the ones who actually create something beautiful and original, and then there are imitators - who (usually) make really good copies of the artists' creations. But contrary to popular belief, this not necessarily a bad thing. While an original work of art will cost vast sums of money to acquire, an imitation piece is generally quite affordable and except in the eyes of complete anoraks, is, for all intents and purposes, just as good.
