All-new Skoda Superb revealed

Skoda has pulled the wraps off its new Skoda Superb at the 85th Geneva Motor Show. Billed by the company, as the 'best Skoda ever', the new Superb adopts a substantially more refined and evolved design compared to its predecessor.

Styled by design chief Josef Kaban, the 2016 Superb follows the company’s new design language which is seen on the Skoda Fabia. From the front, it borrows key design themes from the Vision C concept revealed at Geneva last year. This new car gets a prominent grille, angular headlights and short front overhangs all of which combine to give the car a sporty look.

The new Superb is 28mm longer and 47mm wider than the outgoing model. Additionally, the wheelbase has been increased by 80mm and the front overhang is 61mm shorter than before. Despite the increase in dimensions the car’s weight is down by 75kg. With the rear seats folded the boot space increases to 1,760 litres.

The cabin of the 2016 Skoda Superb receives a panoramic glass roof, a new infotainment system, a tri-zone climate control, heated seats, a 12-speaker Canton audio system and an umbrella in each front door, along with a tablet holder on the rear seat. Safety features include the Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Crew Protective Assist, Lane Assist and more.

The 2016 Skoda Superb is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine options include the 1.4-litre, 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre TSI with output figures ranging from 123PS to 217PS. A 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre TDI oil burner with output figures ranging from 118PS to 188PS is also available. Transmission options include a six-speed manual or a DSG automatic.

The new Skoda Superb is expected to be launched in India by mid-2016.
