Update March 29, 2017: Tata Tigor Launched At Rs 4.70 Lakh

Time to give the spy cameras a rest, folks! Wraps have been taken off the Tata Tigor in its production avatar at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The compact sedan on display is a snazzier 'Geneva Edition', but it does give us all the information we need on the Tata's first 'styleback'. What's more, Mayank Pareek, President at Tata Motors confirmed the Tigor will launch within 22 days, which means the D-day is likely to be March 29. Get the chequebooks ready, this only means bookings will begin pretty soon.

Let's kick things off with the dimensions. The Tigor is 3992mm long, 1677mm wide and 1537mm tall. That makes it 246mm longer, 30mm wider and 2mm taller compared to the Tiago. Importantly, the wheelbase stands at 2450mm - a full 50mm extra over the hatchback. That's some clever packaging right there!

Thankfully, it isn't a case of function over form. The Tigor does look proportionate, with a neatly integrated boot (which we're told is close to 400-litres).  The design is nearly identical to the Tiago up to the B-pillar, post which you begin to notice differences in the roofline, the rear doors and of course, the boot. The 'Geneva Edition' features a super cool red-black theme, an aggressive front bumper with daytime running lamps and gets a pair of delicious alloy wheels, which (sadly) isn't likely to make it to the showrooms.

The red-silver theme continues on the inside, with red garnishes on the steering wheel, AC vent surrounds and the gear-lever. The interiors of the Tigor is familiar territory, as the design is identical to that of the Tiago. But, it does pack in a few extra goodies, though. For instance, it gets automatic climate control instead of manual air-conditioning, and the infotainment system is now a touchscreen. It will feature an 8-speaker Harman infotainment system which Tata claims has been certified by globally renowned "Golden Ears" and tuned by seasoned Harman audio experts. The Tigor will also feature a rear-camera and steering-mounted controls for the audio and calls.

Tata has confirmed the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder 'Revotron' motor for the styleback. While there's no word on the output, we reckon it wouldn't be too far off from the Tiago's 85PS and 114Nm. Gearbox options for the petrol will include a 5-speed manual, and possibly the 5-speed AMT as well. Tata hasn't confirmed the diesel drivetrain for the Tigor yet, but Tata is likely to pick either between the Tiago's 1.05-litre unit, or the new Nexon's 1.5-litre motor. We have our bets on the former.

The Tigor will have a rival-less run in the market, until Chevrolet launches the Beat-based Essentia sedan. We're expecting prices to start around the Rs 3.75 lakh rupee mark, which should make it phenomenal value for money as well!
