Even as a heated debate rages on regarding the technical specifications of quadricycles among automakers, India's largest three-wheeler engine supplier Greaves Cotton is ready with a 265 cc petrol engine to help automakers foray into quadricycles, once given a go-ahead by the government .
Sunil Pahilajani MD and CEO, Greaves Cotton told ET, "We have announced to our list of customers that a new quadricycle engine is ready with the company. There are multiple companies which are exploring an entry into the segment. If they decide to go ahead we are ready with the solution." While Bajaj Auto is ready with its RE60 quadricycle, players such as Piaggio, Mahindra & Mahindra has shown an interest to enter the space.
Greaves Cotton has an arrangement to supply engines to some of them. The new 265 cc quadricycle petrol engine is developed on an all-new platform and could be adapted to run on compressed natural gas if there is need, added Pahilajani. Over the last few years, the company has spent 5-8 % of its total R&D spends on the G 265 engine.
