The implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) is set to take effect on July 1, 2017. Indian motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto has decided to pass on savings earned from the implementation of GST to customers from June 14 till June 30. Depending on the model and the state in which the motorcycle is purchased, customers can save upto Rs 4,500. With this move, Bajaj becomes the first motorcycle manufacturer in India to pass on the benefits of GST before its implementation date. Eric Vas, president of motorcycle business, Bajaj Auto said, “As a responsible corporate Bajaj Auto is happy to pass on the price saving accruing out of GST to its customers. With the GST implementation just around the corner, we felt that it would be appropriate to pass on this significant savings to customers. Bajaj Auto is proud to be the first motorcycle company in India, to offer post-GST reduced prices to customers even before the implementation date. Customers no longer need to wait for July 1 to buy their desired Bajaj motorcycle.”
The benefits from the implementation of GST will vary from state to state, and differ across motorcycle models. Customers can now walk into an authorised Bajaj Auto dealerships to understand the savings and avail of the same for bookings between June 14 and June 30. However, it is unclear how the motorcycles will be priced after the current tax structure is simplified through GST and we will have to wait for the manufacturer to announce the revised prices applicable from July.
