Design:
The Harley-Davidson Street Rod is based on the Street 750 but gets some new design elements to distinguish itself from its sibling. It has a more urban and cafe racer-inspired design and the revised suspension geometry has endowed it with a low slung stance that makes it attractive. The headlamp casing of the new bike is larger and it also gets a bigger windscreen which looks good. The handlebar is also wider and it gets bar-end mirrors which are normally seen on cafe racers. The Street Rod also features multi-spoke alloy wheels that look cool. Harley designers have also redesigned the tail section completely it is much shorter now and gives the bike a sporty feel and houses an LED tail lamp. The rear suspension is also new and the springs are draped in red shade, as opposed to chrome like the Street 750. The new bike is offered in three colours - Vivid Black, Charcoal Denim and Olive Gold.
Engine:
Powering the new Street Rod is the same 750cc, liquid-cooled "Revolution X" V-Twin engine as seen on the Street 750. The 750cc motor, in our books, is among the most impressive engines in Harley’s portfolio but there was always potential for more power. Harley engineers have now tuned the motor to develop 11 per cent more power while torque has risen from 59Nm to 62Nm. The engine delivers this hike in torque at just 4,000rpm which should make the engine more tractable at lower rpms while riding in city. The engine also features a larger volume air box and new dual 42mm throttle bodies, new four-valve cylinder heads and high-lift camshafts, plus a higher-volume exhaust muffler – all designed to increase airflow and efficiency.
Cycle Parts:
The biggest talking point of the new Harley-Davidson Street Rod is its updated cycle parts. The cruiser motorcycle features upside-down forks as opposed to the conventional telescopic forks seen on the Street 750. The USD forks should help in improving the handling performance of the bike with faster steering and better feedback. The rear suspension is also an all-new twin shock unit which has a longer suspension travel of 117mm, an increase of 31 per cent. Harley have also updated the braking hardware as the new motorcycle features twin disc brakes at the front, while ABS is standard.
Chassis:
The Street Rod uses the same double cradle frame as the Street 750 but the steering geometry has been revised. The rake angle has been lowered from 32° to 27° which should make the bike easier to manoeuvre in the city while also improving its handling dynamics significantly. The Street 750 has always been a sweet handling motorcycle but the footpegs used to get grounded very easily and this restricted the lean angle one could achieve with the bike. To address this, the Harley-Davidson Street Rod features aluminium rear-set footpegs which have increased the lean angle from 28.5° left and right to 37.3° right and 40.2° degrees left.
Price:
All these additions, though, come at a price. The Harley-Davidson Street Rod has been priced at Rs 5.86 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this pricing, the new motorcycle carries a premium of Rs 95,000 over the Harley-Davidson Street 750. So, does it justify this premium? Well, on paper it seems to offer good value for the new cycle parts, more power and the sporty styling. But we will be able to give a proper verdict only after we ride it next month. So do follow our website and social media channels for more updates on the new Harley-Davidson Street Rod.
