In a bid to expand its product lineup in India, Harley-Davidson has launched two new motorcycles -- the Forty-Eight Special and the 2019 Street Glide Special. However, there’s a third all-new motorcycle that will soon join the list. The American bikemaker has announced that it is going to launch the Electra Glide Standard in India later this year. And with that, Harley-Davidson India’s portfolio will have 18 motorcycles.
The Electra Glide Standard will be the most affordable bike in Harley’s touring range and will sit below the Road King. So, what does this entry-level Harley-Davidson tourer get? Honestly, not much. The American bikemaker calls the Electra Glide a “dressed-down dresser”, so instead of borrowing some of the bells and whistles from its bigger cousins, Harley-Davidson has given the Electra Glide Standard a raw, stripped-down appeal. It is positioned as a bare-bones tourer which you can customise to your taste. To that effect, Harley-Davidson offers a range of customisation options from parts to custom paint jobs.
Just like the Road King, the Electra Glide Standard too, isn’t equipped with an infotainment system. While the Road King is available in four paint options, the Electra Glide Standard will be available in just one paint scheme -- black. It does have a semi-digital instrument cluster though, that displays useful rider information such as low-fuel warning, two tripmeters, gear indicator, and the likes. Cruise control is also on offer.
The Electra Glide Standard features a Batwing fairing like the Street Glide Special, saddlebags, cast aluminium wheels and a generous amount of chrome detailing. Powering the Electra Glide Standard is the same Milwaukee-Eight 107 V-Twin engine seen on the range-topping Road Glide. The motor churns out 151Nm of max torque at 3,250rpm and is paired to a 6-speed transmission. The tourer tips the scale at 371kg.
Braking hardware consists of twin discs up front and a single disc at the back with four-piston calipers at both ends. The international-spec model doesn't get ABS as standard, but the India-spec model will. Suspension duties are handled by 49mm Showa forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear.
The Electra Glide Standard is priced at USD 18,939 (around Rs 13.21 lakh) abroad. Now, Harley-Davidson does manufacture its bikes in the US and exports them to India. And given that its Road King, which costs USD 19,289 (around Rs 13.4 lakh) in the US, retails for Rs 25.53 lakh in India after import duties, we expect the Electra Glide Standard to retail at around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
