Harley-Davidson India announces the pricing of its two CKD models that will be on sale from 1st January 2011!
After declaring plans to assemble its motorcycles in the country, Harley-Davidson India has now announced the pricing and booking details for two of its new models which will be imported into the country as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) units. The two models that will be sold as CKDs in India will be the 883 SuperLow and the 883 Iron - both from its 2011 line-up. The stylish and uber-cool 883 SuperLow is priced at Rs. 5.5 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi) while the anti-chrome, matte-black painted 883 Iron can be yours at Rs. 6.5 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
It's exciting news for all the bikers in India as their dream superbikes are now coming under the affordable price-band without them having to shell out big bucks to get their hands on these exemplary machines. Import duties applicable on CKD kits are considerably lower than those levied on Completely Built Units (CBU), which allows the manufacturers to competitively price their products. Harley-Davidson has already setup a facility in Haryana to look after its assembly operations in India and the bookings for the CKD models will commence from 1st January 2011 onwards.
The company will import CKD kits for the selected two models, which will consist of components produced by Harley-Davidson's U.S. plants in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Missouri as well as the company’s suppliers. India will be the second country in which Harley-Davidson has CKD assembly operations outside the U.S., after Brazil where the American motorcycle-maker began assembly operations in 1999. Harley-Davidson India looks set to live upto the commitment it made of bringing the Harley-Davidson brand within the reach of a wider audience in India. The competitive price-point of the CKD Harley-Davidson motorcycles will certainly prompt a lot of bikers to opt for their dream machines but even more importantly, it can stir up the big-bike market like never seen before.
