The Hero HX250R is one of the most eagerly awaited motorcycles ever since the time it was showed prior to the 2014 Auto Expo. Since then Indian two-wheeler enthusiasts have been awaiting keenly for the bike to hit our tarmac. Sadly it seems that they will have to wait even longer as Erik Buell Racing filing bankruptcy has delayed its launch. Erik Buell Racing was playing a major role in the development of the motorcycle as the import documents revealed that many components were shipped from USA for the upcoming bike. With the American bike builder shutting shop last month the progress and development of the motorcycle has stalled thereby further prolonging its launch. It is expected that the Hero HX250R will only debut in early 2016 with a probability of the bike being officially launched at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi.
The quarter-litre motorcycle has been jointly developed by Hero MotoCorp, America’s Eric Buell Racing (EBR), AVL (Austria) and Engines Engineering. The Hero HX250R will be the most powerful bike from the company’s stable, packed with a 249cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which will churn out 31PS of peak power and peak torque rating of 26Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a 6-speed gearbox and it will be the first Hero offering to sport a six-speed transmission. Tipping the scale at just 139kg, the Hero HX250R will have an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 223PS/ton. This means this Hero will produce 6PS more than the Honda CBR250R and weigh 28kg less than the Japanese bike! On the design front, the Hero HX250R is quite a stunner with twin-headlights, large windscreen and under seat exhaust. Adding to the look is a geodesic tubular chassis and a beautiful trellis shaped swingarm. Though the pricing of the bike has not yet been revealed, we expect the new Hero HX250R to cost around Rs 1.5 lakh onwards.
