Hero MotoCorp has sold more than 75 million units till date, according to official sources. This has been made possible by the large sales and dealership network and household brand name that Hero has nourished since its inception in 1984. The bikemaker has been able to accelerate its growth in the last few years, with sales doubling during the festive season. In fact, Hero MotoCorp had sold more than a million units during last year’s festive season. Their regional sales have been strong in Maharashtra, where sales grew by 25 percent during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. August 2017 also saw Hero clock its highest ever sales in a single month, selling 6.78 lakh two-wheelers. Hero’s sales cover not just Tier I and Tier II cities but rural areas as well, with their commuter bikes driving most of the sales numbers. They have more than 6000 retail outlets across India. Aside from domestic sales, Hero also exports bikes and scooters to other countries. Hero MotoCorp was the fourth largest two-wheeler exporter in FY16-17, with a 12 percent market share. They sold 1,80,391 units in FY16-17.
Hero MotoCorp has five manufacturing facilities in India. They are at Gurgaon, Haridwar, Halol, Dharuhera and Neemrana. Their total capacity is 7.6 million units annually. Hero is planning to add a sixth facility in South India to boost its production capacity. It currently has 15 products in its portfolio, which includes bikes ranging from 110cc to 150cc and three 110cc scooters. The commuter range includes the Splendor iSmart 110, Splendor+, Splendor Pro, Passion Pro, HF Deluxe and HF Deluxe Eco. The 125cc bikes are the Glamour, Glamour FI and 2017 Glamour. Hero’s 150cc segment includes the Achiever 150 and Xtreme Sports. The scooter category consists of the Duet, Pleasure and Maestro Edge. Hero is expecting its two-wheeler sales to cross the two million mark in the upcoming festive season. It also has plans to make a mark the entry-level performance segment, which has been witnessing a steady rise in demand in the past few years. We will see many new products being unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo which will play a vital role in reaching its goal of crossing the 100 million sales mark before 2020.
