Quite recently, Hero MotoCorp created a record of sorts, selling over 75 million two-wheelers since its inception. Now it has another record. Hero MotoCorp’s domestic sales for September has crossed the 7 lakh unit mark, the highest so far by any two-wheeler manufacturer worldwide. The sales figure of 7,20,739 was no doubt, boosted by the occasions of Ganesh Chaturthi and Dussera. This is quite a hike even compared to Hero’s last year’s September sales figures of 6,74,861 units and also August 2017 sales of 6.78 lakh units.
Hero MotoCorp also set another record, crossing the one million mark in domestic sales for the festive season till now. The high sales can be attributed to Hero having one of the largest two-wheeler dealership network in the country. At present, Hero has more than 6000 retail outlets that cater to not just Tier I and Tier II cities but rural areas as well. While Hero’s range consists of scooters and bikes, it is the commuter bike segment that is driving most of their sales unlike Honda, whose scooters sell more than the bikes.
Hero MotoCorp currently has five manufacturing facilities in India situated at Gurgaon, Haridwar, Halol, Dharuhera and Neemrana. With the help of these, Hero can churn out 7.6 million two-wheelers annually. To boost production, Hero will be adding a sixth facility in South India. Hero’s portfolio has bikes in the range of 110cc to 150cc and three 110cc scooters. The commuter range consists of the Splendor iSmart 110, Splendor+, Splendor Pro, Passion Pro, HF Deluxe and HF Deluxe Eco. The 125cc range includes the Glamour, Glamour FI and 2017 Glamour. In the 150cc segment, there is the Achiever 150 and Xtreme Sports. The scooter category has the Duet, Pleasure and the Maestro Edge.
Hero expects sales to cross one million units by the end of the festive season. Hero MotoCorp has set a goal of crossing 100 million in sales by the year 2020. To help reach that target, they will be adding more products to their portfolio, some of which we expect to be launched at the 2018 Auto Expo.
