Hero MotoCorp has claimed the crown of leading the 125cc motorcycle segment with the Glamour. The leadership position was previously held by Honda's CB Shine. The company had sold a total of 109,955 units in April of the Glamour, Ignitor and Splendor motorcycles that fall in the 125cc segment. The sales figure reports growth of 33 per cent as compared to the 82,298 units sold in the corresponding previous year.
A Hero spokesperson said, "Hero Glamour has become the country's largest-selling 125cc motorcycle for three consecutive months this year, thus further consolidating Hero's leadership in the 125cc segment."
"The 125cc segment will continue to see growth in the medium term as replacement and upgrade demand will drive sales. There are also new markets where the segment has immense growth potential," he further added.
The change in the segment leadership for Honda is likely due to its loss of ground in the segment followed by the growth of sales figures for Hero. Honda currently has the CB Shine and CB Shine SP in the 125cc segment. The company had experienced a drop in sales figures by 10.5 per cent by selling 66,700 units in April as compared to 74,532 units in the corresponding previous year.
