While Hero MotoCorp still rules the roost when it comes to the Indian two-wheeler industry and is the undisputed king with respect to sales figures things haven’t been all positive. The country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer has been posting positive sales figure but the percentage growth has been on single digit figures, while its arch rival Honda has been gaining steadily. It hasn’t gone unnoticed though as Hero is gearing to launch 15 new products for the domestic as well as the international market.
Speaking to reporters, Hero MotoCorp Chairman, MD and CEO Pawan Munjal said that the company is planning to introduce three new motorcycles. The three upcoming bikes are the Hero Achiever 150, Super Splendor and Passion PRO with the Hero patented i3S start-stop technology. The Hero Achiever has been part of its portfolio for a long time but the 150cc bike hasn’t been a success for the Manesar based two-wheeler giant. The bike has received cosmetic updates in the form of new colours and graphics but failed to make a mark among consumers. The Hero Achiever 150 is powered by a 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder motor churning out 13.5PS and 12.8Nm of torque. The upcoming Hero Achiever 150 we feel will get a design update along with a bump in power but details regarding it is restricted.
The new Hero Achiever 150 will rival the likes of the Honda Unicorn, Suzuki GS150R, Bajaj Discover 150S and Yamaha SZ-RR. The other two bikes are the popular Hero Super Splendor and the Passion Pro which will get the start-stop technology as seen on the Splendor i-Smart. Given the fact that the 97.2cc motor powering the Splendor i-Smart is the same motor as seen on the Passion Pro it wouldn’t be a difficult task for Hero ti integrate the new technology. While the Hero Super Splendor will be the first 125cc offering from Hero to get the start-stop technology. The addition of i3S start-stop technology will increase the price of the bike by few thousands but will also be instrumental in further increasing the mileage of the bike.
