Hero MotoCorp has unveiled plans for four new product launches in the coming financial year and unveiled an all new diesel-electric bike concept that will be part of its Auto Expo line-up. The five products are the RNT 150cc TDi concept bike, 250cc sportsbike HX250R – the first bike co-developed with Eric Buell Racing (EBR), the Leap electric hybrid scooter in pre-production form, the Dash 110cc scooter and an update to the Xtreme.
RNT diesel scooter concept
The RNT concept has a liquid cooled 4 stroke turbocharged 150cc diesel engine producing 13.5hp of power and 35Nm of torque. It also has an electric hub motor too providing 1KW of power to the front wheel. Hero claims a 70kph top speed and 0-60kph in 5 seconds. The RNT is only a concept with no production plans set yet.
HX250R sportsbike
The HX250R will be the first motorcycle co-developed with EBR and will be launched in the second half of next financial year. It is powered by a 249cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine developing a handsome 31hp of power and can accelerate to 60kph from standstill in a claimed 2.7 seconds. The engine is all-aluminium, it gets a combination ABS system, under-seat exhaust and single shock rear suspension.
Leap electric hybrid scooter
The Leap concept revealed at the 2012 Auto Expo has reached pre-production form with a launch slated sometime after October 2014. It will be launched abroad first and then introduced to the Indian market. The Leap is a serial hybrid scooter with an 8KW electric motor and 124cc petrol mill. It’s got a small 3-litre fuel tank and a range of 340km hinting that it will be a highly efficient scooter. It weighs in at 140kg, quite heavy for a scooter of this size. This is mainly due to the large lithium-ion battery powering it. It’s got 240mm discs up front and drum brakes for the rear wheels.
Dash scooter
The Dash is set for launch in the first half of FY14-15 which means any time after April this year. It has an 111cc air-cooled 4-stroke heart producing 6.3KW of power and 9.4Nm of torque. It gets tubeless tyres, Hero’s version of Honda’s combi-brake system, side stand indicator and service reminders.
Xtreme Sports
The 150cc Xtreme commuter motorcycle gets updated. It makes more power at 15.2bhp and comes with a 5-speed gearbox. It gets gas reservoir suspension for the rear.
