Hero MotoCorp is gearing up to start 2018 with a bang as it has sent out an invite for the launch of new Xtreme 200 S. The new model will be the flagship motorcycle for Hero and will be launched on January 30, just a few days before the 2018 Auto Expo. The new Hero motorcycle was first showcased as a concept (with the same name) at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Hero Xtreme 200 S is expected to be priced around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete against the TVS Apache RTR 200, Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 and the Yamaha FZ 25. The styling of the new bike isn’t too radical and it looks like an evolution of the Hero Xtreme 150cc motorcycle. The overall design is sharp and sporty which should appeal to younger buyers.
The motorcycle looks modern with its large headlamp that gets integrated DRLs, while the beefy fuel tank extensions add a dose of muscle to the overall styling. Also, the multi-spoke alloy wheels get draped in bright red shade as does the tyre hugger, which adds a nice contrast to the overall styling. The concept bike sported a semi-digital instrument console and we expect the production bike to carry this forward. The Hero Xtreme 200 S concept bike was powered by an all-new 200cc, single-cylinder engine delivering 18.6PS at 8,500 rpm and maximum torque of 17.2Nm at 6,000 rpm. We expect the production motorcycle to feature the same motor but with an increase in power output to give it a better standing against the competition. For reference, the Apache RTR 200’s motor develops 20PS and 18Nm while the Pulsar’s 200cc powerplant produces 23.5PS and 18.3Nm of peak torque.
Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed gearbox. The Hero Xtreme 200 S is built on a diamond type chassis that is suspended on telescopic front forks and a monoshock at the back. Fun fact: It is the only production Hero MotoCorp offering to sport a monoshock suspension setup. The bike employs disc brakes at both ends to handle braking duties, while ABS is likely to be an optional extra ( a first for any production Hero motorcycle).
