Built on the Ambassador platform, VEER is a small 0.8-tonne small commercial vehicle, whose diesel version will sell for an inaugural offer price of Rs. 3.30 lakh

The Light Commercial Vehicles segment has lately been one of the most consistent performers in the country’s automotive sector, and continues to grow rapidly, having already achieved a growth of 22.11 percent in the last quarter (as per SIAM data).

With a number of major automobile manufacturer’s like Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra, and now Ashok Leyland (JV with Nissan Motor Corp) aggressively expanding their product line-up in this sector, Hindustan Motors, best known for its iconic Ambassador now introduces its first 0.8-tonne commercial pick-up, the VEER.

Robust and spacious just like its Ambassador cousin, the VEER has been built to be a sturdy load carrier. With all necessary changes made to the SCV’s transmission and suspension systems, the VEER will not just have adequate load bearing capabilities, but like its passenger car version, will also offer a fair bit of comfort to its drivers. Apart from this, VEER buyers will also enjoy the traditional benefits of low cost maintenance and easy availability of spare parts, like on the Ambassador.

Speaking after the official unveiling of the new vehicle, Mr. Manoj Jha, HM’s Managing Director said, “We have honoured our commitment by launching VEER. More new vehicles will follow suit. These will come both from our Uttarpara plant in West Bengal, where we manufacture the iconic Ambassador and other vehicles, and our Chennai facility where we build the Mitsubishi range of vehicles. Our bouquet of offerings is set to expand at a fast pace due to our reinforced emphasis on new product development.”

The new VEER pick-up will be available in both diesel (BS III) and CNG (BS IV) versions and in two models – VEER and VEER LX. While VEER has a separate load tray, VEER LX’s load tray is seamlessly integrated with the front cabin.

Hindustan Motors is launching VEER initially in East India with plans to go pan-India over the current financial year. It will be initially available in marshall cream and stack brown colours, and the diesel version will sell for an inaugural price (Month of August 2011) at Rs. 3.30 lakh ex-showroom Kolkata.
