The Indian festive season usually brings with it good times for most of the automobile industry. And with Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India boasting the reputation of being one of the most reliable brands in India, they witness an enviable amount of attention from consumers in this season. This year was no exception. Despite Honda’s sales seeing a significant dip in October compared to last year, the overall sales figures for the year has broken previous records, buoyed up in no small measure by September sales.
The major contribution to Honda’s sales comes from the Activa, which is the highest selling scooter in India, and the CB Shine, which is one of the highest selling bikes in the 125cc segment. Last year, the company sold 12.5 lakh products in total during the month of September and October. This year they saw an increase of a lakh, thereby breaking its own record to reach the figure of 13.5 lakhs.
Mr Yadvinder Singh Guleria, the Senior VP of Sales and Marketing at Honda, spoke about how this target was made achievable by all the 4 Honda plants in India working at full capacity. On top of that, Honda’s third plant was expanded to produce 50,000 more units per month. Expansion of Honda's network, its wide availability of models and extensive marketing also helped in achieving the feat.
However, what might miss a person's attention in this is the dip in sales witnessed during the month of October. In October 2016, with both imports and exports combined, Honda sold a total of 4,92,237 lakh products, while this year they only sold 4,66,535.
But Honda has no reason to be upset as it has several other feathers to add to its hat this year. The new CBR650F is now open for bookings at the same price as the previous one: Rs 7.3 lakhs. The Grazia, Honda's new automatic scooter for the cosmopolitan market, has commenced bookings too, and it will be launched on the 8th of November.
