Honda Cars India has announced recalls of 2338 units of the Brio, Amaze and CR-V built between September 2011 and July 2014 for a preventive replacement. 1040 units of the Brio, 1235 units of the Amaze and 63 CR-Vs are part of the batch of cars that have an incorrectly assembled driver’s side air bag baffle plate. Since airbags are offered only on the top two variants of the Amaze and top variant of the Brio, the number of cars aren’t as high. In the CR-V though, six airbags are part of standard fitment.
The baffle plate is part of the air bag’s inflator mechanism and there are chances of the air bags injuring the driver in an accident due to excessive rise in pressure within the inflator. No incident has been reported yet in India but as a preventive measure under our voluntary recall policy, the Japanese carmaker will replace the part.
As with any recall, the replacement is free of cost and the company will individually contact owners. Meanwhile, owners can also check if their car is part of the recall batch by logging onto Honda’s website and submitting their vehicle identification number.
