Honda Amaze CVT: Now Available In VX Variant

• Price premium over the manual is up to Rs 83,000.
• The VX CVT is Rs 41,000 more expensive than the V CVT.
• Standard safety features now include passenger seatbelt reminder and high-speed alarm.

Honda has launched the CVT automatic transmission in the VX flagship variant of the Amaze. The petrol VX CVT is priced at Rs 8.57 lakh and the diesel VX CVT is priced at Rs 9.57 lakh. Earlier, the CVT transmission was only available with the mid S and V variant. The price jump from the V CVT to the VX CVT for both engine options is Rs 41,000. And, the price jump from VX MT to the VX CVT in petrol and diesel engine option is Rs 83,000 and Rs 73,000, respectively.

In terms of features, the VX gets a few important convenience features over the V variant like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, an additional USB port, steering-mounted voice control, rear camera with guidelines and driver side window one-touch up.

Along with this update, Honda has also introduced standard safety features like front passenger seatbelt reminder and high-speed alarm in the Amaze. This has been done to comply with the upcoming safety regulations that will be implemented from 1st July 2019. The Amaze now comes with the above mentioned plus dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard.

The Amaze is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine which makes 90PS/110Nm paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission (19.5kmpl, claimed FE) or a CVT (19kmpl). Also, the Amaze was the first car to offer a diesel-CVT option in the segment. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre i-DTEC turbocharged 4-cylinder unit that develops 100PS/200Nm. It also comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission (27.4kmpl) or a CVT automatic. But the engine has been de-tuned to 80PS/160Nm to work with the new CVT (23.8kmpl).

Honda has also mentioned that the CVT variants account for over 20 per cent of the Amaze's sales and that the sub-compact sedan has contributed to 46 per cent of total HCIL sales in FY 2018-19. The second-gen Amaze registered sales of over 85,000 units in the 11 months since its launch in May 2018, which is the fastest sales number recorded by any new model launched by HCIL in India. The Amaze rivals the likes of the Maruti Dzire and the Ford Aspire in the segment.
