Just like the Amaze earlier this year, the Brio will get refreshed styling cues, both on the outside and the inside

Earlier this year, Honda introduced the updated Amaze sedan in India with some cosmetic changes on the outside and some upgraded cabin features in order to crawl its way back into the sub-4 metre sedan competition. Now the Japanese car firm has decided to take its cheapest offering in India, the Brio, and give it a makeover.

At the front, it is expected to carry the same bumper that featured in the new Amaze. That means a larger radiator intake and sportier housing for the fog lamps . Unlike the new Amaze, which gets a chrome grille with the Honda logo in the middle, the new Brio is expected to get a similarly designed but all-black grille.

Move to the side of the car and the profile remains unchanged, including the alloy-wheel design. As is the case with the Jazz, the top-spec VX variant of the Brio will get a spoiler with an integrated LED brake light. It is still unknown whether the updated Brio will get a rear windscreen wiper in India.

On the inside, the updated Brio will carry the same dashboard that does duty in the Amaze sedan and the BR-V. It was a much-needed update for the Brio since the cabin of the current-gen model is a little bland. The Brio facelift will now get automatic climate control and a Bluetooth-enabled music system capable of handling phone calls and audio streaming.

Apart from the gadgetry, it will also get a new, three-dial instrument cluster, just like in the lower variants of the Amaze. An all-black interior is also on the cards for the Indian market. Unfortunately, the circular MID (multi-function information display) which is available in the top-spec Jazz and Amaze won’t feature in any variant of the Brio.

Under the hood, the mechanics are expected to remain the same. This means that a 1.2-litre petrol motor that churns out 88PS of power and 109Nm of torque will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission in the car. A CVT (continuous variable transmission) may make its way into the Brio since the demands for automatics is on the rise in India.

The little hatchback isn’t the roomiest in the market, nor is it the best value-for-money proposition. If it wants a shot at increasing its market share in this segment, Honda must price the updated version competitively.
