Less than two months after Honda released the sketches of its upcoming compact SUV, they have unveiled a prototype at the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015. While the car is still in its development stages as of now, it is expected to go on sale in some of the South-East Asian markets before it makes its way to India next year.
On the outside, the BR-V looks typically Honda with the bold chrome grille up front which is accompanied by pulled-back projector headlamps. The large bumper with the silver skid plate up front houses the fog lamps that get chrome surrounds. In profile, the BR-V looks very much like the Mobilio along with certain bits like roof rails and the body claddings that give the look of an SUV. At the back, Honda’s compact SUV gets large LED tail lights, additional scuff plate at the back and strip of chrome above the registration plate.
On the inside, the BR-V gets a unique dashboard design that is in line with Honda’s current line-up of cars like the City and the Jazz. It gets a dual tone-treatment with the darker portion at the top and the lighter section at the bottom. While the BR-V gets the steering wheel similar to the Amaze and the Mobilio while the centre console from the City.
The Indonesia spec BR-V comes with a 1.5-litre 120PS engine that is expected to come with a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox. In terms of safety, the BR-V is expected to come with ABS, Airbags, EBD and the works. Honda is expected to unveil the BR-V at the 2016 Auto Expo next year. It will go against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming compact SUV.
