Honda CBR250RR revealed in Indonesia

After making two-wheeler enthusiasts wait for a long time, Honda finally unveiled the new CBR250RR in Indonesia. The Japanese two-wheeler giant unveiled the production version of the motorcycle via a video and a press conference. The new quarter-litre Honda offering will be manufactured in Indonesia where the Yamaha R25 and R3 is also built and exported to various markets across the globe. The new offering from Honda isn’t a replacement for the CBR250R which is on sale in India as it’s a sports tourer while the CBR 250RR is a more performance focussed supersports motorcycle. What is really surprising is the fact that the production-spec motorcycle has maintained the same aggressive design language as showcased in the Light Weight Super Sport that was showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show.

The rakish front fascia is dominated with twin-split LED headlamp which is similar to the flagship Fireblade over which sits the LED DRL’s. The chiselled fuel tank and the sharp looking fairing befit its supersports DNA. The tail section also carries forward the razor sharp styling with a petite LED tail lamp flowing well with the overall design. Another interesting design detail is the single-sided twin muffler exhaust system which is similar to the one found on the Ducati 959 Panigale.

The instrument console is an all-digital unit with a large speedometer while the tachometer is tucked away at the edges. The bike also features a new chassis which seems to be a diamond type unit similar to the R3. Riding posture on the motorcycle will be aggressive with clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs hinting that the CBR250RR should be fun to throw around a racetrack The Honda CBR 250RR will also feature goodies like ride-by-wire and three riding modes – comfort, sport and sport+. Honda hasn’t divulged details regarding to the powerplant but we expect the liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder motor to redline close to 14,000rpm and produce around 37-40PS.

The mill will be mated to a six-speed gearbox and whether it gets slipper clutch remains questionable. Braking will be done by petal disc brakes on both the ends with ABS being an optional extra. The Honda CBR250RR also gets good cycle parts like USD forks at the front and a monoshock unit at the back. The Honda CBR250RR can be a game changing for Honda in the entry-level performance motorcycle segment where it has been overshadowed by the KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 which are its arch rivals in international market and on Indian soil. If Honda plans to get the CBR250RR in India, we can expect it to be launched by mid-2017 and it will come via the CKD route and should be priced around Rs 3.5 to 4 lakh ex-showroom. But there are rumours that Honda is planning to intorduce a 300cc variant of the new motorcycle simialr to the Yamaha R25 and R3 which in our opinion is the most likely candidate to be launched in India.
