Honda has two plants in India: Greater Noida and Tapukara, Rajasthan.
Production at the Greater Noida plant has been shut, but all other office functions will still continue as is.
The CR-V and Civic which were manufactured at this plant have been discontinued.
Honda’s Indian lineup now consists of the Jazz, Amaze, City, and WR-V.
Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) has shut down production at its Greater Noida plant. This plant, which was set up in 1997, had the capacity to produce one lakh units annually. Just before it was closed, it used to manufacture the CR-V and the Civic, and so these models have been discontinued as well.
However, the plant will still continue to house Honda India’s head office operations, including its two-wheeler arm, its power product business, its India R&D centre and spare parts operations (including warehouse) for automobiles. In Honda’s other plant at Tapukara, Rajasthan, things remain unchanged. This facility has a capacity of 1.8 lakh units per annum.
In terms of production volume, Honda managed to reach pre-Covid numbers from September 2020. Despite the strong figures, Honda has had to curb its operations and shut down specific operations at Greater Noida.
Production of the new City, which was earlier taking place at both the plants, will now happen only at the Tapukara plant. This, however, cannot be done with the CR-V and Civic as the Greater Noida plant was the only one equipped with the facilities for production of these two models. As things stand, Honda’s current lineup consists of the Jazz, Amaze, WR-V, and the two generations of the City, all of which are manufactured at Tapukara.
In India, the Civic was offered with the choice of a 1.8-litre petrol engine and a 1.6-litre diesel engine whereas the CR-V came with a 2.0-litre petrol engine only. Both the models’ petrol engines came paired with a CVT but the Civic’s diesel engine got just a manual gearbox.
Currently, the Civic retails from Rs 17.93 lakh to Rs 22.34 lakh (ex-showroom) whereas the CR-V is priced from Rs 28.27 lakh to Rs 29.49 lakh (ex-showroom). If you’re interested, now is your best chance to get before they’re out of stock.
