The problem with small scooters or motorcycles like the Honda Monkey is that although they are fun to ride and will be quite popular in your social group, they don’t have power, which makes them, err, boring to ride. However, Americans are known for their love towards ‘Powahh,’ right? So, an American company called Nextar Consult Inc (NCI) made a DIY supercharger kit for small scooters and motorcycles. For testing purposes though, they plonked their supercharger to a, you guessed it, Honda Monkey!

So how much of a difference does it make, adding a supercharger to a Honda Monkey? Quite a lot, actually. Prior to installing the supercharger kit, the Monkey did 0-50kmph in 14.64 seconds, but after installing the miniature kit, it did the same run in 8.34 seconds. That’s 6.3 seconds chopped off from its time!

Once the kit is installed, the only thing that the customer has to do is to tweak the motorcycle/scooter to match the new power output. However, NCI also advises fitting a temperature gauge as the supercharger might heat up the small motor.

There are two kits on offer: one for 50cc to 125cc motors that costs $500 (around Rs 34,459) and one, which is specifically designed for a Honda Monkey costs $700 (around Rs 49,600). So if you are still procrastinating your restoration project, then now might be the right time to find some tools and add a freaking supercharger to it!
