Honda has showcased quite a few products at Auto Expo 2018, notable among which are the Honda X-Blade, it's updated line of models and more. Apart from the high profile showcases, Honda also displayed the PCX electric scooter.
The PCX electric scooter gets a high-performance electric motor developed in-house by Honda using learnings from their four-wheeler division. The big news is that the Honda Mobile Power Pack is a detachable unit. In essence, you can attach two of these power packs under the seat of the PCX to improve the range of the scooter. While not much information is available, Honda plans to standardise this technology across its future electric and hybrid vehicle range.
Apart from the drivetrain that has been replaced by an electric motor, the scooter has also received minor design updates to differentiate it from its petrol counterpart. It gets a new headlamp that’s sleeker than the previous generation model and houses an LED unit as well. The taillamp is also an all-new LED unit. The instrument cluster, on the other hand, is a digital LCD unit.
Honda plans to launch the PCX in Asian markets this year. Given our Road Transport ministry’s plan to transition to all-electric mobility by 2030, it makes sense for Honda to get the PCX to India as well. So, it’s safe to expect similar technology on bikes and scooters from Honda in the near future.
