Honda’s Chinese subsidiary Wuyang Honda has launched the U-GO e-scooter in China. It reminds us of a certain Indian EV (heard of the Ather 450X?) and here’s what it offers.
With its neat and minimal design approach, the U-GO looks pretty neat. It gets LED illumination all around. Moreover, the footboard seems to be larger than what most electric scooters offer.
It’s powered by a 1.44kWh lithium-ion battery with a 65km range which can be further extended to 130km with a second battery. However, the addition of the second battery comes at the cost of reduced underseat storage (overall underseat capacity is 26-litre). The top speed is limited to 53kmph. For reference, the Ather 450X offers a maximum range of 85km and a top speed of 80kmph.
The U-GO features LCD instrumentation with basic information like the battery status, range, speed and riding mode. Additionally, it gets a USB charging port and an anti-theft alarm.
It is sprung on a telescopic front fork and twin rear shocks. The braking hardware consists of a front disc and rear drum brake setup. It has a seat height of 740mm.
Wuyang Honda has priced the U-GO e-scooter at CNY 7,499 (roughly Rs 86,000). While that’s quite an attractive asking price, the scooter still lacks features like Bluetooth connectivity, GPS and the fast charging option. Considering the current EVs in our country offer much more for a similar price (thanks to the FAME 2 subsidies), Honda is unlikely to bring the U-GO here, however, it does has something interesting planned for India.
