Update 16/3/17: Honda WR-V Launched At Rs 7.75 Lakh
Honda is on a hot streak in 2017. Soon after the launch of the City Facelift, Honda will be launching the WR-V crossover in the country on March 16. In essence a beefed up Jazz, the Honda WR-V looks muscular and packs in a lot of kit over the hatchback. While taking on cross-hatchbacks like the Hyundai i20 Active, VW Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura, the Honda WRV will also rival sub-four metre SUVs like the Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. We expect Honda to price this crossover in the Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh bracket.
In terms of features, the Honda WR-V will pack a lot of gizmos. The cross hatch will borrow some key features from the facelift Honda City like Digipad - Honda’s new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system -, climate control, LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels and the one touch open/close sunroof. The Infotainment unit is quite capable when it comes to practicality. It has satellite-linked navigation, voice recognition, Bluetooth telephony, audio streaming, 1.5 GB internal memory, 2 USB-in slots, 2 microSD card slots and 1 HDMI-in slot for MirrorLink functionality. It even features Wi-Fi support for Internet browsing. But the biggest drawback of this unit is the absence of smartphone connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other key features of the car include rake and reach adjustable steering, a push button start/stop and cruise control on the diesel. The WRV also boasts of a boot space of 363 litres with folding rear seats and dual front airbags and ABS as standard.
As far as the engines are concerned, they are being carried forward from the Honda Jazz. The petrol mill is a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder i-VTEC unit which produces a max power of 90PS at 6000rpm and max torque of 110Nm at 4800rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 17.5kmpl. The diesel is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder i-DTEC unit which produces 100PS of max power at 3600rpm and 200Nm of max torque at 1750rpm. Paired to the 6-speed manual, it returns a mileage of 25.5kmpl. The Honda Jazz has exactly the same engine tunes, but since the WR-V is heavier, the mileage figures are 1.2kmpl and 1.8kmpl less than the petrol and diesel Jazz respectively.
So, with the WR-V, you get the mechanicals and the spaciousness of the Jazz, while the comfort and convenience features from the freshly launched Honda City. Also, with the bigger dimensions, muscular looks and a substantial 188mm ground clearance, the WRV looks menacing. We will soon be coming out with the first drive story of Honda’s upcoming offering, so stay tuned!
