Honda WR-V Gets A New Mid-spec ‘V’ Variant

Honda Cars India has added a new variant for its compact SUV, the WR-V. Christened the ‘V’ variant, it slots in between the ‘S’ and ‘VX’ trim levels and can be had with the diesel engine only. Along with the introduction of the new variant, the base ‘S’ and top-end ‘VX’ trims also sees some feature additions.

What’s new in the V Variant?

The new V variant can be had with the diesel engine only. It is priced at Rs 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is Rs 70,000 more than the base ‘S’ trim level. For the extra premium, these are the features that you get:

  • Turn indicators on ORVM
  • Rear wiper and wash
  • Chrome outer door handles
  • Piano black and silver trim on the dash
  • Touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Mirrorlink and voice command assist
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • Two tweeters
  • Push button start and keyless entry
  • Cruise control
  • Rear view camera

Feature Updates On S and VX Variant:

Common feature updates on both trim levels include speed sensing auto door lock, driver and passenger side vanity mirror.

Apart from that, the base-spec S variant now gets additional features like 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control and front fog lamps while the top-spec V variant gets a leather wrapped steering wheel as a new addition.

All variants come with updated safety features like rear parking sensors, front passenger seat belt reminder, high speed alert as standard to make it compliant with the upcoming AIS 145 safety norms.

Any Engine Updates?

Nope, the WR-V continues with the same BS4-compliant 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel units. The petrol motor churns out 90PS/110Nm while the diesel puts out 100PS/200Nm. The petrol can be had with a 5-speed MT while the diesel can be had with a 6-speed MT.

The introduction of these new features has led to an increase in the prices of the WR-V by up to Rs 32,000. The base variant is the most affected as it sees a sizeable amount of feature updates. The introduction of the new variant and features in the WR-V is indeed a welcome addition. Unfortunately, these feature updates have pushed the price of the base-spec WR-V to Rs 8.15 ex-showroom, making it Rs 1.65 lakh more expensive than its closest competitor, the Hyundai Venue. The WR-V’s other rivals include the Ford Ecosport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300.
