During an annual general meeting (AGM), Rajiv Bajaj announced that it will launch the Swedish Husqvarna brand in India. Husqvarna is currently owned by KTM in which Bajaj Auto has a stake. Rajiv Bajaj also announced that the Swedish motorcycle brand will make its debut in the Indian market in January, 2017. It was reported earlier this year that Bajaj was in talks to ride in the Swedish brand which is being revived by KTM to India and the above announcement confirms the same. KTM boss Stefan Pierer had also announced that the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 will be based on the 2017 KTM 390 Duke and will be manufactured at Bajaj’s production facility in Chakan. Both the bikes will share powerplant, frame and cycle parts with the 390 Duke, the only differentiating factor will be the design and product positioning of the Husqvarna pair. Given the fact that the new Husqvarna will be built in India it seemed logical for the Swedish brand to be introduced in our two-wheeler market.
The Husqvarna range of motorcycles will be sold via the official KTM dealerships across the country which in its Pro Biking store avatar also sells CKD Kawasaki motorcycles. The Husqvarna duo will be positioned as a premium offering over the KTM 390 Duke. The production-spec version of the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 will be officially revealed at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle show in Italy later this year.
