In the 650cc segment, there are a number of offerings from Japanese and Korean bike makers. However, the 250cc category does not have too many options. Hyosung has now opened bookings for its GT250R in Delhi. Priced at Rs 2.75 lakh, ex-showroom, the bike will be offered in three colours, namely Flaming Snow, Red Raven and Silver Fox. The V-twin powered bike produces almost 30PS of power @ 10,000rpm and 22.07Nm of torque @ 8,000rpm, that take the GT250R to a top speed of 140km/h.
DSK Motowheels is planning to localise the bike by setting up an assembly plant near Pune. So the prices of these bikes are likely to be slashed by half by 2013 end. The company will also open another showroom in Delhi at Mahavir Enclave. “Delhi is a key market for us strategically as the people here have a taste for chic and luxury, while appreciating our products. Our products have received an overwhelming response from the capital and I am confident that the GT250R will further excite the superbike and sports bike category in the city,” said Suresh Kulkarni, Managing Director, DSK Motowheels.
After a number of joint ventures and consequential splits, Hyosung seems to have stabilised its position as a performance bike maker in India. In our road test, the GT250R delivered an overall fuel efficiency of 25.7kmpl. Not bad for a quarter-litre we say.
