After multiple teasers, spy shots and design sketches, Hyundai has finally revealed the Aura compact sedan ahead of its expected launch at Auto Expo 2020. It will be sold alongside the Xcent, but is expected to be offered at a premium. Here’s a closer look at the Aura in detailed images.
While we all expected the Aura to not look as aggressive as in the design sketches, the compact sedan hasn’t strayed much in the flesh. The main talking point is that the Aura takes a variety of design cues from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. The front-end features a cascading grille which follows Hyundai’s ‘Sensual Sportiness’ design language. It also gets projector headlamps similar to the Grand i10 Nios.
The Aura also borrows the boomerang-shaped DRLs from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. Interestingly, the Aura features a black plastic or silver accent that surrounds the honeycomb grille, which isn’t present in the i10 Nios. The differences don't end there as the lower portion of the grille extends towards the aero lip on the front bumper.
Heading towards the side profile, the Aura is 3995mm long, 1680mm wide, 1520mm tall and has a 2450mm-long wheelbase that is on par with its rivals. It also retains bits from the Grand i10 Nios like the C-pillar.
A closer look reveals a different set of 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels compared to its stablemate.
The rear of the Aura features a tailgate that has an upward angle that meets with the roofline. It also features a license plate housing on the bumper like the Ford Aspire.
The main talking point at the rear is the presence of wraparound taillights that meet a chrome bar at the boot lid. The taillights themselves feature additional silver accents around it, which is a bit too much bling for our liking.
Under the hood, the Aura is powered by three BS6 compliant engines. The diesel option consists of a 1.2-litre Ecotorq turbo engine that delivers 75PS and 190Nm. The first petrol engine is a 1.2-litre MPI engine good for 83PS and 113Nm. The second and most powerful petrol option is the 1.0-litre turbo engine from the Hyundai Venue. It makes 20PS less at 100PS but delivers the same 172Nm of torque. All engines will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox, with the AMT option being limited to the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines.
Hyundai is also offering the Aura with various warranty plan options. They include 3-year/1 lakh kilometres, 4-year/50,000km, and 5-year/40,000km plans. Once launched, it will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze, and the Volkswagen Ameo.
