With less than 3 days to go before Hyundai reveals the Aura compact sedan on December 19, the carmaker has dropped a teaser of the sedan via design sketches. And it reveals various design cues taken directly from the Grand i10 Nios hatchback. That’s not all, as it will get the 1.2-litre BS6 petrol engine from the hatchback as well. Other engine options include a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine from the Venue and a 1.2-litre diesel engine. The Xcent replacement will take on the likes of the Honda Amaze and Volkswagen Ameo once launched in the Indian market.
The design sketches reveal a Grand i10 Nios like front end with features such as a cascading grille, projector headlamps as well as angular DRLs. At the rear, the Aura features a wraparound set of tail lamps that meet a chrome bar at the boot lid. The rear design sketch also confirms that the Aura will feature a licence plate housing on the rear bumper like the Ford Aspire.
While the interiors haven’t been revealed yet, the Aura could get a similar cabin as the Nios since its exterior design is similar to the hatchback. This means it could feature circular air vents, as well as an 8-inch infotainment system. We could also have additional premium equipment considering it is a compact sedan.
Under the hood, the Grand i10 Nios’ 1.2-litre petrol engine makes 83PS and 113Nm. Expect the Aura to feature similar power figures. The 1.2-litre diesel engine is likely to produce the same power figures at 75PS and 190Nm as the Xcent despite the BS6 upgrade. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine from the Venue could be offered in a lower state of tune. All these engines are likely to be mated to a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.
Prices are yet to be revealed, but we can expect a premium over the Xcent owing to its new platform and BS6-compliant engines. Once launched, it could take on the best-seller Maruti Suzuki Dzire considering the number of upgrades.
