Hyundai Cars India introduced a petrol automatic variant of its successful Creta SUV in April. Now, the Korean manufacturer has introduced a more affordable version of the automatic diesel Creta in the S+ variant. Hyundai has priced the S+ automatic diesel Creta at Rs 13.56 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), which makes it around Rs 1.06 lakh cheaper than the top-spec SX+ automatic diesel.

The launch of the automatic variants for the petrol and the diesel model can be related to the growing trend of buyers opting for automatics. In the case of the Creta, the automatic option was available only in the top spec SX+ diesel variant earlier. Now, with the automatic option available in the more affordable diesel S+ model of the Creta, buyers can enjoy the ownership of a diesel automatic Creta at a lesser price. In comparison to the SX+ variant, customers opting for the S+ model will lose out on features such as projector headlamps, dual-tone front grille and rear wiper. Automatic climate control and push button start are also skipped for this variant. However, this variant continues to come with the standard 7-inch touchscreen audio system equipped with 6 speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB HDD, dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and fog lamps.

The S+ diesel variant of the Creta is powered by a 1.6-litre CRDi 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. The motor is capable of producing 128PS of max power and 259Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Buyers are currently facing a waiting period of close to two months for the S+ diesel automatic variant.
