Hyundai has finally launched the Elantra facelift at a starting price of Rs 15.89 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). The sedan is a sharper update to its outgoing iteration and is powered by an all-new NU 2.0-litre petrol engine that is BS6-compliant. Like the previous BS4 engine, this unit produces 152PS and 192Nm. It can be optioned with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission..
The Elantra is available in three trims -- S, SX and SX (O) -- and five colour options -- Phantom Black, Marina Blue, Fiery Red, Polar White and Typhoon Silver. Which one’s the ideal pick? Here’s a detailed look at what each variant has to offer.
1- S
Price: Rs 15.89 lakh
The base variant of the Elantra facelift gets standard equipment like projector headlamps, standard DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone beige-black interiors and manually adjustable drivers seat. Other standard kit includes power windows, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and steering-mounted controls. Safety equipment includes includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, driver and passenger seatbelt reminder and speed alert system.
The S trim lacks equipment from higher-end models like a bigger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car tech, cooled glovebox, premium Infinity 8-speaker sound system and drive modes. It also doesn’t get features like keyless entry with push button stop/start, USB charger, wireless charger, coloured instrument cluster, aluminium pedals, LED DRLs, electric sunroof and LED taillamps. Safety misses include front parking sensors, ESC, hill-start assist, rear camera as well as auto headlamps. If you want to really avoid the features that D-segment sedans have to offer, then pick this option.
2- SX
Price: 18.49 lakh (MT), Rs 19.49 lakh (AT)
The Elantra SX is also offered with a 6-speed automatic unit. It carries all of the features from the lower-spec S variant and gets additional kit that like the larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech, cooled glovebox, Infinity premium 8-speaker sound system and drive modes (AT only). Other features include auto cruise control, auto folding ORVMs, telescopic steering, dual-zone automatic climate control LED taillamps and electronic sunroof. It also gets chrome inserts on the grille and window beltline.
Safety additions in this trim include rear camera, ESC, Hill-start assist, auto headlamps, and front auto defogger. Compared to the top-spec trim, it lacks features like front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, LED quad projector headlamps, LED DRLs, leather upholstery, 10-way electronically adjustable driver seat, and illuminated vanity mirror. It also doesn’t get a USB charger, which seems like a miss, and a wireless charger.
3- SX (O)
Price- 20.39 lakh
Here's the head honcho in the Elantra facelift’s lineup. This variant is fully loaded with kit like front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, LED quad projector headlamps, LED DRLs, leather upholstery, 10-way electronically adjustable driver's seat, and illuminated vanity mirror. Other kit on board include a front-seat ventilation system, USB charger, wireless charger, aluminium pedals and a colour display instrument cluster. This trim is only available in a 6-speed automatic configuraton.
The new Elantra rekindles its rivalry with the Skoda Octavia, Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla Altis in India.
