The Hyundai Elite i20 received a facelift at this year’s Auto Expo. Now, the premium hatchback has received two CVT variants as well. Available in two variants, the CVT version of the popular hatchback is priced at a premium of Rs 1 lakh over the manual version. Here are the prices:
Elite i20 Magna Executive CVT: Rs 7.04 lakh
Elite i20 Asta CVT: Rs 8.16 lakh (all prices, ex-Delhi)
Earlier, Hyundai offered the pre-facelift version of the Elite i20 1.4-litre petrol engine mated to a 4-speed torque converter. However, Hyundai ditched the larger engine with the introduction of the facelift. Hence, the Elite i20’s automatic variant is now powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that also powers the manual variants. This has helped the company give the automatic hatchback a more competitive price thanks to tax benefits for sub-4 metre cars with engine sizes limited to 1200cc for petrols and 1500cc for diesels.
The Elite i20 CVT gets the same set of features as its manual counterparts. This includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, power windows, a 2-DIN music system and electrically adjustable ORVMs on the Magna Executive variant. The top-spec Asta variant, on the other hand, gets additional features such as a reverse parking camera with sensors and dynamic guidelines, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, tilt-telescopic steering and height adjustable driver's seat.
Sadly, just like it does with the Creta, Hyundai has decided not to offer the CVT option with the Asta (O) variant. This is due the fact that the Asta (O) variant costs a whopping Rs 78,000 more than the Asta variant and equipping it with a CVT would have made the hatchback cross the Rs 9 lakh mark. So if you’re need for an automatic gearbox can’t be compromised, prepare to miss out on features like six airbags, LED projector headlamps, keyless entry, LED DRLs and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
The Hyundai Elite i20 CVT goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz, both of which already come with a petrol-CVT combo. The Baleno CVT is priced at Rs 7.09 lakh for the Delta variant, Rs 7.70 lakh for the Zeta variant and Rs 8.40 lakh for the Alpha variant. The Jazz, on the other hand, is offered in two variants - S CVT (Rs 7.70 lakh) and the V CVT (Rs 8.46 lakh) (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
