Hyundai India’s new car, the Hyundai Elite i20, has received an overwhelming response across the length and breadth of the country. The carmaker has issued an official statement claiming that within 20 days of its launch, the new Elite i20, has received 15,300 bookings and 79,200 enquiries. This is a record high for the company which had raked 10,000 bookings for the Hyundai i10 within 20 days of its launch, and 11,000 bookings for the Hyundai Xcent sedan in 30 days of its launch.

Commenting on the bookings, Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, HMIL, said, “We are overwhelmed by the customers strong appreciation and acceptance of the new Elite i20 making it a huge success. This is Hyundai's fifth sequential successful product launch highlighting the customer confidence in the Hyundai's aspirational brand value and products. The demand of Elite i20 has doubled, and we are working towards increasing its production to reduce the waiting period for faster deliveries so as to delight the customers.”

The new Hyundai Elite i20 is the new-generation model of the company's premium hatchback - the Hyundai i20. Although the design of the car is absolutely new, it continues to come equipped with the old engines – a 1.2-litre Dual VTVT Kappa petrol unit which also powers the Hyundai Grand i10 and Hyundai Xcent, and a 1.5-litre CRDi oil burner. The petrol engine is capable of delivering 83PS of power and 115Nm of torque, while the diesel engine produces 90PS of power and 220Nm of torque. The petrol engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the diesel is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The new Hyundai Elite i20 has an ARAI certified mileage of 18.6kmpl for the petrol and 22.54kmpl for the diesel - both base variants. The top spec variants with the 16-inch alloy wheels have ARAI figures of 18.24kmpl and 21.76kmpl for the petrol and diesel respectively.

The new Hyundai Elite i20 rivals the Maruti Swift, Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto Evo.
