Following the industry trend of launching sporty variants of their cars, Hyundai has silently launched the 'Sports Edition' of the Eon with some cosmetic and feature upgrades. As one would have expected, it only features cosmetic and feature changes and skips on any mechanical ones. What's strange is that the Sports Edition is only available with the smaller 0.8-litre engine and not with the bigger 1.0-litre. The Sports Edition is available with the Era+ variant at about Rs 16,000 more over the stock variant and with the Magna+ variant for a premium of about Rs 10,000.
ERA+ | Solid Colour Sports Edition | Rs 3.88 lakh |
ERA+ | Metallic Colour Sports Edition | Rs 3.92 lakh |
Magna+ SE | Solid Colour Sports Edition | Rs 4.14 lakh |
Magna+ SE | Metallic Colour Sports Edition | Rs 4.18 lakh |

Starting from the exterior, Hyundai has skipped the usual formula of giving the car a dual-tone paint scheme, spoiler or racing graphics to make it look more sporty. Following a different and a brand new approach, the Korean carmaker has given the Eon Sports Edition 'Sporty Roof Rails' to add to the sporty look. Confused? So are we. Not just that, Hyundai has also added side-body moulding graphics to add a bit of character. Also, the Sports Edition is only available in the 'Polar White' shade.
On the inside, the Eon Sports Edition sports a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system which has phone link, USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. All other features remain the same. Powering the Eon Sports Edition is a 0.8-litre petrol engine which produces 56PS of max power and 77Nm of torque. Mated to this engine is a five-speed manual transmission and this combination returns a mileage of 21.1kmpl.
For the premium paid, the additional features in the Eon Sports Edition make sense. The biggest change being the addition of a 6.2-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration, which has become an essential feature in our connected lives and is what make the Renault Kwid lucrative to buyers. Besides the Kwid, the Eon also rivals the likes of the Maruti Alto and the Datsun redi-Go.
