Marking two decades since it started operations in India, Hyundai Motor India Limited is preparing to roll out special editions of two of its models – Grand i10 and Xcent – this year. Since its inception in India in the year 1996, the Korean carmaker has gone on to become the second largest car manufacturer in India.
Commemorating its 20th anniversary, Hyundai will launch the Xcent and Grand i10 special editions in successive months, managing director of HMIL, YK Koo informed The Hindu. “2016 is important for us. To celebrate 20 years of our success, we will introduce a special edition of Xcent this April at a competitive price for Indian customers. In May, we will roll out a special edition of i10, with new features and styling,” he said.
Hyundai launched the i20 special edition last year on the occasion of its first anniversary. And going by the trend, the upcoming special edition cars can be expected to come with minor changes on the skin. Chrome embellishments in the exterior, accessories, entertainment features and sportier looks will be part of the special editions. To enhance the special and sporty feel, sport pedals, special floor mats, seat covers, parcel tray, and door sil plates could be added to the new cars.
Speaking about other cars, Koo said that a new version of the Elantra is in the works and could be seen in dealerships by as early as August this year. Hyundai is also seeking to up the ante in India’s quickly growing SUV segment. We had recently reported that it will build a car on the Carlino oncept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo while the new premium compact SUV Tucson will also hit India around the festive season this year.
