India’s second largest car maker is planning to offer the Hyundai i10 in the taxi market, instead of the already popular Hyundai Santo in the next few weeks. This comes close to our news which stated that the Santro hatchback has reached the end of its lifecycle in India, and the Hyundai i10 becomes the obvious successor in the taxi segment of major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata. Over the years the Hyundai Santro had gained popularity due to its affordable price, ease of use, low running cost and Hyundai’s wide spread sales and service network. Owing to this, the Hyundai i10 should be a natural upgrade for taxi permit owners, further strengthening Hyundai position in the taxi segment. Other manufacturers like Maruti and Tata are vying to get a stronger foot hold in the taxi-segment with models like the Tata Indica and Maruti Ritz.
The South Korean company will also be introducing a new base variant under the Hyundai i10 Era variant which will come without power-steering, music system or air-conditioning. The company will also offer CNG kits along with the car which could be fitted at Hyundai dealerships.
