The third-gen i20 will be launched on November 5.
It will get three engine options: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel.
ARAI-certified figures indicate the manual diesel powertrain is the most fuel efficient.
The third-generation i20 is set to launch on November 5 but before that, we’ve managed to get our hands on the ARAI-certified fuel-efficiency figures for the upcoming premium hatchback. It will come with three engine options including two new units: a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
If these engine options seem familiar, it’s because the upcoming i20 borrows its powertrains from the Hyundai Venue. In the i20, the 1.2-litre petrol engine puts out 83PS/114Nm and gets a choice of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT, which is not available with the Venue. The 1.5-litre diesel engine makes 100PS/240Nm and gets a standalone 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 120PS/172Nm and gets two transmission options: a 7-speed DCT and Hyundai-Kia’s 6-speed iMT clutchless manual gearbox. Here’s what the fuel-efficiency numbers look like:
Powertrain |
Fuel Efficiency (ARAI-Certified) |
1.2-litre Petrol MT |
21 kmpl |
1.2-litre Petrol CVT |
19.65 kmpl |
1.0-litre Turbo-Petrol iMT |
20 kmpl |
1.0-litre Turbo-Petrol DCT |
20.28 kmpl |
1.5-litre Diesel MT |
25 kmpl |
Unsurprisingly, the diesel-manual powertrain leads the pack with the best mileage of 25kmpl, followed by the manual 1.2-litre petrol variant with 21kmpl and the automatic 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with a fuel efficiency of 20.28 kmpl. The clutchless manual variant of the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine gets a fair figure of 20kmpl, with the automatic 1.2-litre petrol variant proving to be the least fuel efficient with a mileage of 19.65kmpl.
The premium hatchback will come with a bunch of features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, and a sunroof. It will be offered in four variants: Magna, Sportz, Asta, and Asta (O). For more details on each variant, you can head here.
Official bookings for the third-gen i20 are already underway for Rs 21,000. The upcoming hatch will face the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Honda Jazz. Hyundai is expected to price the i20 between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
