The i20 N Line will be Hyundai’s first proper hot hatch in India when it goes on sale tomorrow. Unlike the Polo GT that received mainly cosmetic updates, Hyundai has ensured the i20 N Line stands out from the standard model when it comes to both cosmetics and mechanicals. So if you had your eyes set on the upcoming hot hatch, here are five facts you need to know before signing the cheque:
Claims To Be A Better Handler
Hyundai says it has stiffened the dampers by 30 percent and retuned the steering to offer better feedback. Rear disc brakes also ensure that you get better stopping power. And last but not least, a throatier exhaust note tops up the list of mechanical updates. All of these promise for more fun behind the wheel, but we’ll reserve that claim until we drive the hatch.
Same Engine
The 1-litre turbo-petrol engine remains unchanged. It continues to develop 120PS/172Nm and can be paired with either a 6-speed clutchless manual (iMT) or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Hyundai claims the i20 N Line can accelerate from 0 to 100kmpn in 9.9 seconds. All good, but we wish the hatch got a proper 6-speed manual gearbox for a more engaging driving experience.
Sportier Looks
the automobile community
The standard Hyundai i20 is a good looking car to begin with. But the N Line, being a sportier model, gets a chequered flag-inspired grille, a beefier front bumper, N-branded alloy wheels, and dual exhausts. Contrasting red elements on the lower half infuse an air of sportiness and delectable taste. Good job, Hyundai!
Even on the inside, Hyundai has given the i20 N Line an overdose of red that contrasts nicely with the all-black dashboard and seats. Unique design touches include the N-branded steering wheel, gear lever, and seat covers with a chequered flag theme.
Features On Board
Being a Hyundai, the i20 N Line comes loaded with features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, Bose sound system with subwoofer, a single-pane sunroof, a wireless phone charger, digital driver display, and cruise control.
Passenger safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring.
Expected Price And Rivals
The i20 N Line is expected to be priced from around Rs 12 lakh onwards. It will go up against the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. To know how the Hyundai compares against the VW, read our detailed specification comparison.
