Auto Expo 2020 is right around the corner and we already know who’ll be participating at India’s largest motor show. One manufacturer we’re eagerly waiting to see at the event is Hyundai. The South Korean carmaker is expected to showcase five new models and all of them promise to be exciting. Here’s the list:
Hyundai India has already confirmed that the 2020 Creta will make its India debut at Auto Expo 2020. It’ll borrow styling cues from the China-spec iX25 compact SUV and will be based on the Seltos’ underpinnings. Inside, the Creta is expected to go all-out with a Tesla-esque touchscreen infotainment system and a new digital instrument panel. The 2020 Creta will utilise the Seltos’ BS6 compliant 1.5-litre diesel (CRDI) and petrol (VTVT) units. Yes, it will also be offered with the smooth yet powerful 1.4-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine as well.
Hyundai will soon give the Verna sedan a facelift and it’ll debut at Auto Expo. Styling updates include a sharper front end, restyled alloy wheels and an updated rear end with connected tail lamps. Inside, it could come with new digital dials, a new steering wheel and an updated infotainment system with connected car technology. The Verna will also utilise the Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI and VTVT powertrains as the existing engines won’t be upgraded to meet BS6 emissions.

The long-overdue Hyundai Tucson facelift too will debut at the event. As facelifts go, the new Tucson is like old wine in a new bottle. Some of the design updates include a sharper cascading grille, a new bumper, and new LED headlamps. Other updates include new alloy wheels and restyled LED tail lamps. Inside, the Tucson gets a new dashboard with a floating infotainment screen. It’s also expected to come with connected car technology. Under the hood, the Tucson’s existing 2.0-litre diesel and petrol engines are expected to be upgraded to meet BS6 norms. The 2020 Tucson facelift is expected to be launched later in the year.
Hyundai i30 N:
Hyundai isn't exactly known for sporty, performance-oriented cars. But the i30 N is one delicious exception. The performance hatchback is powered by a 2.0-litre T-GDI engine that comes in two states of tune: 254PS/353Nm and 279PS/353Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed stick shifter. Other performance-oriented bits on the i30 N include various drive modes called the ‘N Grin’ control system. They alter various parameters like the engine, dampers, electronic stability control, engine sound, steering, and rev-matching. Expect to see the sporty hatchback at Hyundai’s pavilion.
Hyundai Nexo:
Another unique Hyundai that’s expected to be seen at the Expo is the Nexo fuel-cell SUV. The Nexo is powered by an electric motor that develops 164PS and 395Nm. It draws power from hydrogen fuel cells and Hyundai claims it can do 600km on a full tank. Yes, one can drive this long-range EV without range anxiety. That said, hydrogen fuel cell technology is a relatively new technology in most parts of the world and that might limit the Nexo’s appeal in India.
These are the five new Hyundai cars that could be showcased at Auto Expo 2020. Apart from that, the Korean manufacturer is expected to showcase its WRC rally car as it did in the previous edition. We also expect to see the i10 N hot-hatch as well as a handful of BS6-compliant Hyundai cars as well.
