Hyundai’s mass-market electric car, which will take on the Tata Nexon EV, will be launched in India by 2024. The latest news has been confirmed by the company’s Director of Sales, Marketing and Service, Tarun Garg.
While Garg hasn’t given us any specifics about the upcoming model, we expect it to be a sub-4 metre offering (possibly an SUV) with a real-world driving range of over 300km. Also, chances are it won’t be based on a dedicated EV platform (like the Ioniq 5). Instead, it could utilise the underpinnings of an internal combustion model, which would allow the manufacturer to keep costs in check.
The all-electric vehicle should support fast charging. Also, it might pack features like a digital instrument display, a large infotainment system with connected car tech, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a sunroof, and a branded audio system.
Safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control.

Currently, Hyundai India offers the pre-facelift Kona electric from Rs 23.78 lakh (ex-showroom). A mass-market electric vehicle in the range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh will only help the carmaker rake in more sales from its EVs.
The upcoming model will rival the soon-to-be-launched Tata Altroz EV and Mahindra XUV300 Electric.
