The Hyundai Creta was a hot seller when it received its last facelift in 2018, but it has been hit by the slump in the industry since then, with sales tapering steadily in the last six months. And yet, the sport utility vehicle (SUV) segment is still growing, as proven by the success of the newly-launched Kia Seltos and MG Hector. We know that Hyundai has a 2020 Creta up its sleeve, but what about the outgoing model?
To incentivise its sales, Hyundai is offering benefits of up to Rs 1 lakh on the outgoing model. Prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 15.67 lakh before discounts are applied. Once a segment leader, the Creta competes with the likes of the Tata Harrier, Renault Captur, MG Hector, and its Kia sibling, the Seltos.
The Creta was first launched in 2016 with three engines on offer: a 1.6-litre petrol, a 1.4-litre and a 1.6-litre diesel. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the 1.6-litre diesel, which was recently made available in the entry-level EX and E+ Creta variants, is getting the biggest benefits.
The needs of the Indian market have evolved - newer models provide connected car tech, sunroofs, and drivetrains which are more powerful and efficient. The 2020 Creta, which will likely have all these features, may be launched at the Auto Expo 2020, but we don’t expect Hyundai to discontinue the current generation. Needless to say, Hyundai will only be able to sell the two models alongside each other until the April 2020 deadline for BS4 cars.

Prices for the current-gen Creta start from Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 15.67 lakh. Even if it is ill-equipped to take on the newcomers, the Creta still outsells the Tata Harrier, Renault Captur, Nissan Kicks, and Mahindra XUV500.
