In an attempt to make electric vehicles appeal to a wider audience, the government has slashed the GST rates on EVs from 12 to 5 per cent, resulting in a price cut for various all-electric vehicles. Tata Motors dropped the prices of the Tigor EV by around Rs 80,000 and soon after, Hyundai has also announced that the Kona Electric will get a fat price cut of around Rs 1.6 lakh. With effect from August 1, the Kona Electric will now available for Rs 23.71 lakh (ex-showroom India).

The Kona Electric is the first long-range all-electric vehicle to be launched in India and it is available in 15 dealerships across 11 cities. According to the carmaker, the market response for the Kona EV seems to be positive as it has garnered around 152 bookings in 20 days. It is also the first all-electric SUV in India and comes with a 39.2kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 452km (Modified Indian Driving Cycle - MIDC). It’s performance figures include 136PS of power and 395Nm of torque, a 0-to-100kmph time of 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 154kmph.
The all-electric SUV also supports fast charging and with a 50kW charger, it only takes 57 minutes for the dash from zero to 80 per cent charge. The same takes 6 hours and 10 mins with a 7.2kWh charger. Apart from this, Hyundai has also partnered with Indian Oil Corp to set up charging stations at petrol bunks in select cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.
Some of the notable features on the Kona Electric include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system , voice command recognition, wireless charger, dual-zone climate control, front ventilated and heated seats, 10-way power driver seat, and more.
